Yacht Party in Mykonos: Sound System & Lighting Guide

Yacht Party in Mykonos: Sound System & Lighting Guide
August 20, 2026 by admin

Few things beat a party on the water off Mykonos: a charter yacht anchored off Psarou or Platis Gialos, a sunset cruise past the windmills, or a day boat to Rhenia with a DJ on the aft deck. But a yacht is the hardest venue on the island to get sound right. Space is tight, power is limited, salt spray is everywhere and everything has to come aboard by hand at the port. Here is how we approach yacht party sound and lighting in Mykonos, and what you should think about before you book.

1. The boat decides the rig

When a charter client or a skipper calls us, the first questions are about the vessel, not the music:

  • What power is on board? Shore power at the marina, a generator at anchor, or an inverter? How many amps can we realistically draw without upsetting the galley and the air conditioning? Many boats are fine for a compact system but not for a full club rig unless the generator is sized for it.
  • Where will the DJ stand? Usually the aft deck or flybridge. We need a flat, sheltered spot for the booth, out of the direct spray line, with room for guests to move around it.
  • How many guests, and where do they gather? Sound that is perfect on the aft deck may be silent on the bow. Sometimes one well-placed pair of speakers is enough; sometimes we add a small second zone.
  • Where and when do we board? Almost all loading in Mykonos happens at the Old Port in Chora or the New Marina at Tourlos. We coordinate timing with the crew so the rig is installed and tested before guests step aboard.

2. Two proven setups for Mykonos yacht parties

The compact setup (most charters, up to about 30–40 guests). A Pioneer XDJ-RX3 all-in-one DJ system on a low stand, playing from USB, and a pair of Electro-Voice ZLX-15BT powered speakers. The ZLX-15BT is the ideal boat speaker: 1000 W, a rugged composite cabinet, built-in handles, and Bluetooth so the crew can stream a playlist before and after the DJ plays. It draws modest power and can run from most on-board supplies. If nobody is DJing at all, the speakers alone with Bluetooth make a great sunset-cruise system.

The full setup (larger motor yachts and catamarans, a booked DJ, 40+ guests). A club booth — two Pioneer CDJ-3000s and a DJM-900NXS2, or a four-channel Pioneer XDJ-XZ — with Funktion-One PSS-12 loudspeakers and a Funktion-One BR-115 for the low end. This is a real dancefloor at sea, and it needs a generator that can carry it. We confirm the power with the captain before we quote.

Both setups come from our own stock and are detailed on the DJ equipment rental in Mykonos page.

3. Salt, sun and motion: protecting the gear and the guests

Sea air is brutal on electronics. On a boat we secure every speaker and stand against the motion of the vessel, keep the DJ gear under cover, route cables where nobody will trip, and use weather-resistant fixtures for anything on the open deck. Nothing is left loose, and nothing that matters sits where a wave or a wet guest can reach it. Our technician sails with you when you want the set ridden live, which is also the safest way to run a full rig on a moving boat.

4. Lighting a deck after dark

A yacht at anchor after sunset, glowing against the dark water, is one of the best sights in Mykonos. A handful of compact LED uplights along the rails, a colour wash over the dancefloor and, on larger boats, a couple of small moving heads are all it takes. We use low-power, compact fixtures so the lighting never competes with the sound system for amps, and we plan around the boat’s own deck lights. More on what we rent on the lighting rental in Mykonos page.

5. Logistics: how a yacht booking actually works

  1. You tell us the boat, the date, the guest count and the port. If you have the charter company’s contact, we speak to the crew directly about power and boarding.
  2. We meet the boat at the Old Port or New Marina at an agreed time and carry the gear aboard — no trolleys, no hired hands, our crew does it.
  3. Setup and line-check before departure. Everything is installed, secured and tested at the dock so you leave with a working system.
  4. On board or on call. Your technician either sails with you or hands over a simple, robust setup and stays reachable.
  5. Collection on return. We meet the boat back at the port and take everything off. You walk ashore with nothing to carry.

6. Weddings and sunset cruises

Yacht weddings and sunset ceremony cruises need one extra thing: a wireless microphone, so the vows and the toasts carry over the engine, the wind and the water. The compact setup above handles it easily, with a battery-capable speaker for a ceremony on the bow. For the full picture of ceremony, dinner and party sound, see our wedding sound system rental in Mykonos page.

7. Getting a quote

Yacht party sound in Mykonos is quoted per event — the boat, the power, the guest count, the hours and whether you want a technician on board all change the package. Every quote includes equipment, delivery to the port, boarding, setup, and collection. Message us on WhatsApp at +30 698 123 7777 or send the details through our contact form. Same-day requests are often possible in high season when stock allows; for August dates, book ahead.

Yacht party checklist

  • Ask the captain about on-board power (shore, generator, inverter) and amps available
  • Choose compact (XDJ-RX3 + Electro-Voice) or full (CDJ-3000 booth + Funktion-One)
  • Agree the boarding port and time: Old Port (Chora) or New Marina (Tourlos)
  • Pick a sheltered, flat spot for the booth away from spray
  • Decide whether you want a technician on board for the cruise
  • Add compact deck lighting for after sunset
  • Send us the details for an all-inclusive quote
