Beach Party in Mykonos: Sound System, DJ Booth & Lighting Guide

Beach Party in Mykonos: Sound System, DJ Booth & Lighting Guide
September 5, 2026 by admin

A beach party is the Mykonos fantasy: bare feet on warm sand, a DJ playing into the sunset, the sea turning gold and then black while the dancefloor fills up. It is also the hardest place on the island to make sound and light work. There is no power, the meltemi wind takes both the music and the haze away, salt spray gets into everything and the nearest road can be a long walk over dunes. This guide covers how we plan sound, DJ equipment and lighting for a beach party in Mykonos, so the night looks effortless even though it is not.

1. Sort out the beach before the equipment

Every beach in Mykonos is different, and the first hour of planning is about the location, not the speakers. Three things decide the whole production:

  • Who controls the beach? A private beach club, a hotel beach or a public beach each come with their own rules. Confirm with the venue (and, for public beaches, the municipality) what is allowed, until what hour, and whether a permit is needed for amplified music. We can advise, but the permission has to come from them.
  • How do we get there? Speakers, subwoofers, a booth, truss and a generator have to travel from the van to the sand. Beaches with vehicle access, such as many along the south coast, are straightforward; hidden coves may need a boat or a very early start and extra crew.
  • Where is the wind coming from? The meltemi blows hard from the north in July and August. We position the system so the wind carries the music into the party rather than out to sea, and we shelter the DJ booth from sand and spray.

2. Size the sound system for the crowd, not the beach

Sound on a beach behaves differently from a villa terrace: there are no walls to reflect it, so the system has to be more powerful than the guest count suggests, and the low end needs real subwoofers or the music sounds thin. We size by number of guests, how far the dancefloor stretches and how late you want to go.

  • Up to about 40 guests, sunset drinks and dinner: two Mackie Thump 15A powered speakers on stands with a controller or playlist is plenty. Quick to set up, easy to power from a small generator.
  • 60 to 150 guests with a proper dancefloor: our Electro-Voice ZLX-15 + ETX-15SP system: two 15-inch tops and two powered 15-inch subs. It has the punch for a beach and still fits in one van.
  • 150 to 300+ guests, or a headline DJ: L-Acoustics A10 Wide tops over KS21 subwoofers. Concert-grade coverage across a long, wide stretch of sand, with the sub power to keep the dancefloor moving at 3 am.
  • Extra zones: a Bluetooth Electro-Voice ZLX-15BT at the bar or the chill-out area keeps the whole beach in the same mood at a lower level.

A typical mid-size beach party package: Pioneer Nexus booth with Electro-Voice ZLX-15 tops and ETX-15SP subs.

Whatever the size, we aim the system down the beach and slightly towards the water, keep the subwoofers together for tighter bass, and tune the rig on site once the wind direction is known. If you want the technical reasoning behind each system, read our guide to choosing a sound system in Mykonos.

3. Choose the DJ booth and protect it

The booth question is the same as for a villa party: a friend with a playlist, or a booked DJ? For the first, the Pioneer XDJ-RX3 all-in-one is the answer: one unit, USB sticks, no laptop drama. For a professional DJ, we bring the club standard, two CDJ-3000 with a DJM-900NXS2, or the CDJ-3000 with an Allen & Heath Xone:96 if the artist prefers an analogue mixer. Our CDJ-3000 vs XDJ-RX3 comparison goes deeper.

On a beach the booth also needs a home. We use a proper DJ booth on a levelled base, positioned with its back to the wind, shaded from the afternoon sun and away from the spray line. Players and mixers are covered between sound check and the first set, and a technician stays within reach all night.

4. Lighting after sunset: wireless, weatherproof, dramatic

A beach has no walls to light, so beach lighting is about the sky, the dancefloor and the DJ. It also has no sockets, which is why our beach lighting is built around battery and wireless fixtures.

  • ADJ WiFLY EXR QA5 IP65 uplights: battery-powered, wireless DMX and rated IP65 for spray and sand. We line the walkway from the road, mark the bar and wash any rocks, boats or palms with colour, all with zero cables.
  • Bee Eye moving heads on truss or stands: beams and colour over the dancefloor, timed to the DJ.
  • HALO HEXA LED pixel blinders: the warm blinder hit at the drop, and colour chases behind the booth for photos.
  • Briteq BT-LASER1500 RGB laser: aerial beams over the sea. One honest note: lasers need haze to be visible, and a strong meltemi blows haze away in seconds, so on windy nights we lean on moving heads and blinders instead.

The full range, including haze and stage lighting, is on our lighting rental Mykonos page.

5. Power, logistics and the timeline

This is the part guests never see and the part that makes or breaks a beach party.

  • Power: unless the beach club has a supply we can use, we bring a quiet generator sized for the sound and lighting load, plus our own power distribution and long cable runs kept off the walkways. Generators are placed downwind and out of sight.
  • Protection: speakers on stands or risers to keep them off wet sand, covers for the booth and amplifiers, cable ramps where people walk.
  • Timeline: load-in in the afternoon while the beach is quiet, sound check before guests arrive, a technician on site through the night, and pack-down straight after the last track so the beach is clean by morning.
  • Noise and neighbours: we agree a late-night level with the venue and keep the subs controlled. A tight, well-aimed system sounds louder on the dancefloor than a loud, badly aimed one.

6. Getting a quote

Beach party production in Mykonos is quoted per event, because a sunset gathering with two speakers and a 300-guest dancefloor with an L-Acoustics rig, truss lighting and a generator are very different jobs. Every RadioHouse quote is all-inclusive: equipment, delivery and load-in, setup, an on-site technician, power and breakdown.

Send us the date, the beach, the expected guest count and whether you have a DJ, on WhatsApp at +30 698 123 7777 or through the contact form. Planning a party on the water instead? Our yacht party guide covers that.

Beach party checklist

  • Confirm permission, hours and access with the beach club, hotel or municipality
  • Tell us the guest count, so the system is sized for sand, not a living room
  • Decide the booth: XDJ-RX3 for a playlist, CDJ-3000 booth for a DJ
  • Book battery IP65 uplights and truss lighting for after sunset
  • Let us handle power: generator, distribution, cabling
  • Agree the late-night level and the pack-down time with the venue
  • Book early for July and August dates
