“Which speakers should we rent?” is the question we get most, usually followed by a brand name someone saw at a club. The honest answer is that the best sound system for your Mykonos event depends on four things: how many guests, what kind of space, what music, and how late. This guide explains the systems we rent, what each one is genuinely good at, and the setups we recommend for the events we do most: villa parties, weddings, beach parties and yachts.
How we size a sound system
- Guests and dancefloor size. More people absorb more sound and stand further from the speakers. Fifty guests on a terrace and two hundred on a beach are different systems, not the same system turned up.
- The space. Stone walls reflect and reinforce; an open terrace or a beach gives nothing back, so outdoor systems need more headroom and real subwoofers.
- Music and DJ. A dinner playlist and a techno DJ at 3 am want different low-end reserves. A booked artist may also have a rider that names the brand.
- Hours and neighbours. A controlled, well-aimed system lets you play later at a sensible level. Cardioid sub setups keep bass out of the neighbours’ garden.
Quick chooser
| Your event | System we usually recommend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Drinks, dinner, small villa gathering (up to ~40) | Mackie Thump 15A pair | Simple, powerful enough, mic input for a toast, quick setup |
| Villa party or reception, 60–150 guests | Electro-Voice ZLX-15 + ETX-15SP | Best value full system with proper subs; fits any terrace |
| Wedding ceremony + dinner + party | L-Acoustics A10 Wide + KS21 | Beautiful at low volume, huge headroom for the party, elegant look |
| Beach or large villa party, 150–300+ | L-Acoustics A10 Wide × 4 + KS21 × 2 | Concert-grade coverage over a wide area, deep controlled bass |
| DJ-led party with a house/techno artist | Funktion-One PSS-12 + BR-115 | The club sound DJs ask for; PSS-12 doubles as booth monitors |
| Yacht deck | Electro-Voice or L-Acoustics, sized to the deck | Compact footprints, salt-air-friendly setup, quick load via tender or marina |
| Extra zone: bar, pool, chill-out | Electro-Voice ZLX-15BT | Bluetooth input, one box, keeps the mood without cables |
Mackie Thump 15A: the simple one
The Mackie Thump 15A is a 1300 W 15-inch powered speaker with a built-in two-channel mixer. Two on stands cover a villa living room and terrace, a pool afternoon or a beach dinner, and a microphone plugs straight in for speeches. It is our value option and it is honest about what it is: great for background-to-lively music and small parties, not a substitute for a subwoofer system once people start dancing seriously. A matching 18-inch Mackie sub can be added.
Choose it when
- You have up to about 40 guests
- Music is a playlist or a controller, not a club set
- Speed and simplicity matter more than deep bass
Electro-Voice ZLX-15 + ETX-15SP: the workhorse
Our most-booked system. Two Electro-Voice ZLX-15 15-inch tops on stands over two ETX-15SP powered 15-inch subwoofers with 1800 W Class-D amps and onboard DSP. It is loud, clean and quick to deploy, and the subs give the low end a villa party needs without the footprint of a concert rig. Pair it with the Bluetooth ZLX-15BT for a second zone at the bar or the pool.
Choose it when
- 60 to 150 guests with a real dancefloor
- Villa terraces, beach-bar nights, corporate dinners that turn into a party
- You want the best balance of impact, price and setup time
L-Acoustics A10 Wide + KS21: the premium one
L-Acoustics A10 Wide is a constant-curvature 10-inch loudspeaker from the same family used on festival stages, with 110° horizontal coverage that suits wide, shallow spaces such as terraces, beaches and decks. Under it sits the KS21, a single 21-inch subwoofer with remarkable output for its size, driven by L-Acoustics amplified controllers with factory presets. The result is sound that is detailed and effortless at dinner level and still has enormous headroom at 2 am. It is also the tidiest-looking system we own: one top on one sub per side.
Choose it when
- It is a wedding and the sound has to be beautiful at every volume
- 150 to 300+ guests, or a long, wide space like a beach
- The look of the rig matters as much as the sound
Funktion-One PSS-12 + BR-115: the DJ’s choice
Funktion-One is the brand serious DJs and club promoters ask for by name, and for good reason: it is fast, dynamic and unmistakably musical. Our PSS-12 is a compact 12-inch loudspeaker that works both as a main system for smaller dancefloors and as the best DJ monitor you can put in a booth, and the BR-115 bass reflex cabinet adds tight, punchy low end. Combined with a CDJ-3000 and Xone:96 booth it is the closest thing to a proper club you can build on a Mykonos terrace.
Choose it when
- A booked house or techno DJ is the centre of the night
- You want club character rather than concert neutrality
- The DJ needs top-tier booth monitors
What comes with every system
Whichever family you choose, the package is the same: delivery anywhere on the island, stands or rigging, power distribution, all cabling to the DJ booth, a sound engineer who tunes the system for the venue and stays on call, and collection afterwards. Wireless microphones for speeches and DJ monitors are added on request. Compare the full ranges on our sound system rental and DJ equipment rental pages.
Common questions
Can we mix brands?
Yes, and we often do: L-Acoustics or Electro-Voice as the main system with Funktion-One PSS-12 as DJ monitors, or an Electro-Voice main system with a Bluetooth ZLX-15BT at the bar. What we avoid is mixing brands within the main left-right system, because the tuning suffers.
Do we need subwoofers for a wedding?
For the ceremony and dinner, no. For the party, yes: without subs the music sounds thin outdoors and people turn it up to compensate, which is when neighbours complain. Our wedding sound checklist covers the timeline from ceremony microphones to the last dance.
How loud is too loud on Mykonos?
Most villas and venues have an understanding with their neighbours about late-night levels. We aim the system into the party, control the low end and set an agreed level after midnight. A well-tuned system at a sensible level feels louder on the dancefloor than a badly aimed loud one.
